Disclaimer: The X Files, Fox Mulder, Dana Scully and the like are owned by Chris Carter. I borrowed them as did most people who decide to write X Files fan fiction. I suppose if Mr Carter really wishes to sue me, then he can. However, until he *finally* gets Mulder and Scully together, there is gonna be fan fiction. And probably even after he gets around to doing that... if he ever does. This story is NC-17 blah blah blah. Don't read it if you're not into this sort of thing. It's not gonna break my heart any. And please keep my story on the sites that have my permission to have them. I don't really want copies of them running around all over the net.
Credits: This story is the prelude, if you wish to call it that, of a story by Ursula Minor called Fantasies. What can I say? Hers was one of the first I read and it got me thinking.... And when I start thinking you never know where my mind might go....
The Vineyard by Labrynth
Mulder had been considering it for a long time now. He sat back in a chair next to his couch and closed his eyes, trying to gather enough courage to place the call. She wouldn't know what was going on. She'd worry that something was wrong if he called at this time. But it took so long to get to the spot he wanted to take her. And if he told her where they were going he wasn't sure she would go. No.. It was better to just call and say something was up. Tell her she could sleep in the car on the way up there. Tell her he'd drive until they got there. Let her sleep... let her escape into her dreams for awhile. Then he would take her there. Take her and hope things went well. If not, then his time with her would be over. He couldn't deny this any longer. It tore at him every day to look at her and know what he knew.
The phone rang and Scully turned over to look at the clock as she reached for the obnoxious noise. Great. Only barely 4 am. Even Mulder didn't call this early unless something was wrong. That thought sent her sitting straight up in bed as she clicked the talk button on and said, "Scully..."
He heard her voice, sounding sleepy and sighed, wondering if he should be doing this. His words were soon out and then he couldn't turn back.
"It's me Scully. I'll be at your place in 10 minutes. Don't worry about getting dressed up, just bring your clothes and you can do it when we get there. You can sleep in the car while I drive. There's someplace we need to be. It's urgent."
His voice was odd even to her this time around. A sliver of panic ran through her and she shivered.
"Mulder? Are you ok?"
Damn, her voice was worried. He hadn't meant to scare her... just get her awake.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just got woken up as well. I'll be there soon. Be ready."
He hung up and she sighed, clicking the phone to off and swinging her legs over the side of the bed. Great. A case at 4 am. She thought this might even be a record for Mulder. It must be something big however, even he didn't usually wake her at night unless it was. And his voice had sounded so strange... sleepy.. Maybe kind of dreamy. Switching on the light she winced as her eyes took a moment to adjust and went to the closet. Hmm.. He has said not to worry about dressing. Good. She drug out a pair of sweats and yanked them on, not bothering with a bra, or even underwear for that matter. She could worry about that when he stopped so she could change into her suit. She groaned at the thought of a suit this early and was glad he had thought to tell her not to worry about it. Grabbing a suit from the closet, she tossed it to the bed, then grabbed her over night bag from the bottom of the closet and tossed it next to the suit. She kicked a matching pair of heels from the closet, in the general direction of the bed, then turned to the dresser to grab some socks, hose, her make up bag from the top of the dresser, and the necessary undergarments she would need later. Almost as an after thought she grabbed a pair of shorts and a t shirt as well, thinking that with Mulder she never quite knew what she would need. Tossing everything but the suit in the over night bag, she plopped down on the bed and pulled the socks and shoes onto her feet. As she finished lacing her running shoes she heard his knock at the door.
He peered at her as she opened the door and his breath caught. So rarely did he see her dressed like this. Always in a suit or something as formal. He decided then and there he preferred her like this.. Dressed down, no make up... just Scully. And he had to admit that cranberry color of her sweats looked great on her. Suddenly he pictured her in a lacy bra and underwear of the same color and shifted his weight from her in an effort to not show his growing erection. He offered her a smile and saw her move away to grab her bag and suit, then closed the door behind her. He reached out once to make sure it was locked, then followed her out to the car. Restraining himself from opening the door for her, he went to his side and slid in, starting the car. He had brought with him a case file, in case she had wanted to go over it. It was nothing really. Some silly something or other.. Not even in the state they were going. But it would satisfy her until he could explain everything.
"There's a pillow in the back I brought in case you wanted to sleep," he said as he looked at her, putting the car in gear and pulling away from the curb.
She smiled and nodded, reaching over the seat to grab it, "Thanks... I didn't go to bed until late, so I'm still tired. Is there any reason for me to stay awake Mulder? I'll drive if you want..."
Shaking his head he smiled at her, then turned his attention to the road as she laid back the seat, putting the pillow behind her head and going almost instantly asleep. He wondered why she hadn't gon to bed until so late, but decided it didn't matter. Within the next few hours only one thing would matter. And depending on how that came out it would make him or break him.
Yawning, he looked at the clock and sighed. It was only 9 am. It seemed he had been driving close to forever and he was starting to get a little tired. Looking over at his partner he decided without a second thought that it was worth it. Soon she would have the surprise of her life and at the same time he hoped the darkness would leave him. He took the next exit, pulling into a gas station and parked, reaching over to shake her gently awake.
"Scully.. Wake up. You need to go to the bathroom?"
She looked up at him groggily and moaned softly, "Are we there yet Mulder?"
He shook his head and she sighed, sitting her seat up. Looking around she thought she should recognize this place, but her tired mind wasn't functioning yet. She started to get out and he grabbed her arm and asked, "Did you bring something besides a suit?"
"Shorts and a t shirt... why Mulder?"
He smiled to himself. Good... always planning ahead she was. "Put those on. We might have to do some walking. Wouldn't want you to hurt yourself or get anything good dirty."
Nodding she grabbed her over night bag from the back and walked to the women's bathroom to change and hopefully wash off. Mulder did the same, but didn't bother to change clothes. His jeans would be just fine for where they were going. They both returned to the car about the same time and got in. Scully was silent, and he figured she was still waking up. He pulled away and got back on the road again. That's when it hit her where they were going. The Vineyard.
"Mulder? Are we going to the vineyard? Has something new happened?"
So much for the case file. It wouldn't help him now. He was gonna have to wing it. All well, he was used to doing that lately it seemed.
"Yeah... I thought about something for awhile. It finally came to me what I needed to do."
She looked at him oddly for a moment, almost getting annoyed at another wild goose chase until she remembered how much his father's death and other events had begun to bother him lately. She has started to become worried that it might even consume him after awhile. Maybe this was what he needed. She hoped so. It pained her to see him like he had been lately. Dark and brooding, always lost in some land far away from her. Some might say this wasn't unusual for him, but this was different. It was almost all consuming. She knew he had never really grieved. Never really just taken the time to mourn his loss. And not just the loss of his father... the loss of the truth that maybe only he could have provided him with. The truth was always important to Fox... and she was sure that if the loss of his father hadn't hurt him the loss of that truth had. For a time she had worried about his sanity. Not that she had thought he would go insane or anything. But she thought a few times he just might slip inside himself and never bother to come back to her. But as always it was the demand for the truth that brought him back from the edge. From that place where he could no longer be hurt.
They were both silent until he made the turn off to the vineyard, pulling up to into the drive and past the house.
"It's empty this time of year," was his only explanation.
Scully merely nodded to him, then unbuckled her seat belt as he parked the car. She climbed out and looked up at the sun. She was suddenly glad she had chosen shorts. It would get hot today and she would have smothered in jeans. She wondered vaguely how Mulder would handle the heat. He didn't say anything to her, merely opened the trunk and drug a few backpacks out, handing her one, then slipping the other one on himself. He grabbed a black trash bag out of it, then slammed the trunk lid down and took off walking, seemingly lost in himself again. She watched him walk away for a moment and sighed slipping the back pack on. It was lumpy and she grumbled to herself a moment, then wondered if he was lost in his own world again. She said his name as she caught up to him but he didn't reply and she had her answer.
They walked for what seemed like hours and her stomach had begun to rumble at her. Wondering for an instant if he had brought any food she decided to hold off on asking when she was more certain of getting an answer out of him. Besides, he usually considered such things. She would worry about it later.
Finally he stopped at the top of a hill and looked down into a small valley. She stopped, almost running into him and looked down, gasping softly.
"Mulder... this is... wow. Beautiful. Why are we here?"
He turned to smile at her and in his usual cryptic way replied, "Something I have to do."
He turned to look at the valley again and felt safe. He had often come here as a child and sought comfort within the silence. The weeping willow trees had protected him from prying eyes if he hadn't wished to be found and the crystal clear pond as always cooled him off when he needed it. Wild flowers had grown around one of the trees since the last time he had been here. There was a tree of to one corner of the small valley that bloomed. He wasn't sure exactly what it was, had always meant to look, but it reminded him of one of the willows only in bloom. Starting down the hill that's where he headed, to the tree that had no name other than perhaps comfort. It would be the perfect spot. The small stream was nearby and he could cool off the stuff he brought in it while he tried to explain what he could.
She followed quietly, in awe of the sight. It was absolutely gorgeous. She had no clue he would have known of such a place and was impressed that he thought of it. She almost wished she had brought a camera to capture it, but had the feeling it wouldn't be the last time she saw this place. He stopped at the base of the blooming tree and dropped the trash bag to the ground. Turning to look at her he smiled and said, "We can eat here. I heard your stomach growling and thought this would be a good place to stop. Let me go chill the food a bit in the stream over there. Spread the blanket out and I'll be back in a few minutes."
She looked at the trash bag he had indicated and shrugged as he walked off. He had thought ahead to bring a blanket? Ok, now that was a bit odd. Food yes, but a blanket? What was he planning here? A picnic? Deciding not to dwell on it, she slipped her backpack off and thumped it to the ground, then drug the blanket out and spread it out under the tree. A strong breeze blew suddenly and a shower of blooms rained down on her and the blanket. Smiling, she closed her eyes and took in the scent. Their smell was heavenly. She decided then to leave them on the blanket. She might as well enjoy as much of this trip as she could.
Mulder returned about five minutes later without his backpack and with a small canteen in his hand. Handing it to her he simply said, "Water." She gratefully took a drink and plopped down, not too gracefully, onto the blanket. Following her lead, he plopped down next to her and leaned back on his elbows, moving only when she handed the canteen back to him and took a long drink, then screwed the top back on and set it aside, taking a few moments to gather his thoughts.
She seemed to know what he was doing and sat quietly, looking at him expectantly. She didn't know what she had expected, but his next words certainly weren't it.
Taking a deep breath he began to speak.
"Scully... this isn't about my father or the x files. It's about us."
She blinked at him a moment, her mind not quite comprehending what he was saying. She finally managed to squeak out, "Us?"
He grinned slightly at her surprise and nodded, the began again slowly, sobering once again. Speaking softly to her as his thought began to take form.
"We have been working together for over four years now. Four years of hard work and patience. To this day it still amazes me that I hadn't really thought of things this way before. Not until you were gone from me for so long. When you were abducted."
Pausing, he seemed to think back to that time, then shook his head and began again.
"I have tried for a long time to deny it. To push it away cause I knew you didn't see it the same. But I can't do it anymore Dana. I can't watch things happen like this anymore. I have to tell you, and if you leave then that's your choice. I won't stop you. I'll request a new partner and you can forget all about me."
He was too lost in his thoughts to see her wince at the mention of a new partner. What on earth could he say that would make her want a new partner? And he had used her first name. Something he rarely did. She wondered during his silence for only a short time, then the idea slowly dawned on her and she started to smile.... faintly at first but as her thoughts grew her smile became huge.
"Dana... I... I care about you. I can't lose you. I don't mean only as a partner. I can't ..."
Taking another deep breath he looks at her and almost whispers, "I love you."
Waiting for her rejection of him he's surprised she leans over and kisses him soundly, giving him no room to ask questions. Finally pulling away from him, her smile almost blinding, she whispers in his ear, "It's about damn time Fox."
Blinking up at her blankly for a few seconds, thoughts seem to escape him. Then, it slowly dawns on him, and he pulls her back to him, kissing her softly. He had never believed she would say something like that. Hoped yes. But never truly believed it. Biting his ear, she brings him back to her and smiles wickedly at him, pushing him over onto his back. Sliding her hands under his shirt, she feels him shiver, even in the heat. Bending down, she licks at his navel and hears his groan, then smiles up at him again. He wraps his hands in her hair, dragging her back up to his mouth, kissing her roughly. So much for him seducing her he thinks, not sure if he could wait that long. He wanted her. Now.
Softening the kiss slightly, he rolls her over onto her back, then breaks away and kisses her neck. Tilting her head to the side to give him better access, she feels him begin working her shirt up. Sliding down her, he kisses her navel, then continues to kiss his way up, pushing the shirt up as he goes. Stopping at her breasts, he places a kiss on both of them through her bra and sighs, lifting her up long enough to drag the shirt over her head and tossing it aside. Unhooking her bra in the front, he works it off her arms while licking the spot where her neck meets her shoulder, then lays her back down as he tosses it aside as well. Wasting no time, he kisses his way back down her body, stopping long enough to lick each of her nipples, then moves down to the waist of her shorts.
Feeling the need build up inside her, she knows this won't last long, but doesn't care. They can do it slowly later. Right now she only wants him. Wants to be able to feel him over her, around her, in her. Romantics can wait for later if they feel the need then. Right now all that matters is him. Lifting her hips, she feels him drag her shorts and panties down ,then hears him whisper her name. Opening eyes she doesn't remember closing, she looks up at him.
"You are beautiful Dana... I had no idea..."
Looking at him, he seemed slightly awed and suddenly unsure of himself. She didn't want doubt to come between them anymore. Whispering his name, she says softly, "Fox... I want to see you. I want to feel you. Make love to me. Now."
He blinks at her for a moment, then grins. He wasn't going to refuse and order like that. Dragging his shirt over his head, he almost tears it in his haste, then rises to his knees, undoing his jeans and pushing them down over his hips. His erection springs from his boxers and he sits back, shedding jeans and boxers both, he wastes no time descending over her, dropping down to kiss her deeply. Sliding a hand down her side, he takes a moment to stroke the soft red curls, then slips a finger through her folds, testing her. Her moan tells him all he needs to know as his finger finds her heat and her wetness. Damn... he hadn't even done anything to her yet and she was ready. He began to rub her clit in circles, determined to make her climax fist, but she pulls his hand away and shakes her head. He looks down at her questioningly, then smiles as she tells him, "I can't wait that long. I want you now."
Moving over her he thrusts into her swiftly, plunging into her heat as far as possible. Her hips arch up to meet him and he inhales sharply at the feel of her. He had never imagined her so tight and so wet before either. It seemed he was getting more than he bargained on all around. Pushing into her a half an inch more, he begins to move within her, almost roughly. Wrapping her legs around his waist, she doesn't seem to mind that their first time is so urgent. So demanding. Licking his ear as he thrusts into her as she murmurs to him to move faster. Grinding against her, he feels his climax build swifter than he ever thought imaginable. Knowing he can't take much more he begins to hope she will come with him.
The explosion happens almost before he knows it's there, and his mind is clouds until he hears her cries as well and realizes that somehow she has managed to reach that peak with him. Collapsing on top of her, he takes a moment to rest, then rolls over, taking her with him, pulling her on top of him.
They lay that way for a time, with him sliding a finger over her tattoo. He had told her he found it incredibly sexy and she had never imagined... Almost asleep she feels him move and slides off of him, feeling him slide out of her as she does. Rolling over onto her back, she looks up at his as he rises.
He smiles down at her and tells her, "I hear your stomach growl. I'll go retrieve the food now. We can eat.. Then," he looks her up and down, "we will see about doing it slower next time. Now... get the plates and silverware from your backpack and I'll be back with the food in a minute."
She grins and grabs the backpack, rising to her knees. Spotting the little black box she pulls it out, a frown crossing her face as she says his name. He stops to look at her as she opens it. Her mouth drops and she looks up at him, at a complete loss of words. He shrugs slightly, enjoying the look, then turns to head for the stream, letting her look the ring over. Letting her realize exactly what all of this was about.
